MONKAYO NHS BAGS 6th place in 2011 REGIONAL SEARCH FOR SUSTAINABLE AND ECO-FRIENDLY SCHOOLS

     The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR),through the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), in cooperation with the Depatment of Education (DepEd),the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the SMART Communications ,Inc., conducted the 2011 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-friendly Schools wherein the  Monkayo National High School won  the 6th place in Regional level.
     The said Program ,encourages the schools \academic institutions to become more actively involved in environmental issues at a practical and local event and to develop skills and understanding among the students ,faculty and school administrators in initiating active responses and increasing community awareness and participation on environmental concerns.
     The Criteria for Determining the level of Sustainability and Eco-friendliness of the School are the following: 1. Environment-related Aspects of the School's Policy, 2. Environmental Dimensions of School Operations, 3. Environmental-related Features of the School Curriculum, 4. Presence of Vibrant Eco -Organization in Campus,5. Presence of  Environmental Partners and Linkages in Various Programs\Projects.

Bete being the ever dynamic COORDINATOR of the Sustainable and Eco- Friendly  Monkayo National High School , to the ever supportive PRINCIPAL III Mrs. Editha T. Jao, to all the FACULTY and STAFF , to the PTA and other community stakeholders and to my fellow  STUDENTS   because without our joint efforts we will not  garner this  award .

   The Municipality of Monkayo is strictly implementing the Proper Solid Waste Disposal in view of the memorandum order no.147 and 156 of CY 2011 issued by the  Hon.Mayor  Manuel B. Brillantes.  It ordered that everyone must have the three segregated receptacles such as BIODEGRADABLE,RESIDUAL and RECYCLABLES with cover and label it properly.

     This is in preparation for the upcoming PROVINCIAL and NATIONAL EVALUATION ON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT MONTH  at the end of OCTOBER 2011 and it also encourages everyone to revisit the implementation of 5 S in order to ensure the best practices in segregating the garbage. Signage are found along the streets, in market place and other strategic places for everybody to see and to follow.

     Monkayo National High School supports the memorandum because the school also is applying the Proper Waste Disposal as well as the R.A. 9003 and constantly reminding us—students that we should always make our school clean and garbage free with proper segregation. To be able for students to be constantly reminded of this practice, signage can be seen in bulletin boards of their classrooms. The WOW club (War On Wastes) organize the daily "Basura Patrollers" who were responsible for picking up , following up the cleanliness of the school surroundings with the assistance of the YES-O , PSYSC and Rain Watchers Clubs. Everyone is also practicing the rule" BASURA MO, IBULSA MO" so that littering can be avoided.

     Last August , after the town fiesta the Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Monkayo National High School spearheaded  and  conducted a community service inside Poblacion,  They want to help  maintain the cleanliness around the place.
     In cooperation with the MNHS faculty, YES-O officers, PSYSC officers, Rainwatchers Club officers  and Interact Club officers  and different club members ........they wandered around the Poblacion and picked up pieces of papers and cellophane. They're doing this not only because they want an exposure, but because they care about the dying Mother Earth by acting locally but thinking globally.
     They  also adopted  an island in the street to beautify and to plant ornamental plants  in support of the municipal mayor's program of "Clean and Green Environment".
     Even though they are under  the scorching heat  of the sun  they still continue their work without complaining. That's what we call diligence and determination.
     Working hand in hand makes the  job  done easily.Everybody went  home fulfilled and satisfied knowing that in their own little ways they were able to help nurture the environment.

Monkayo NHS Bb. Kalikasan 2011

     The search for "Binibining Kalikasan "was one of the highlights of the SCIENCE   month celebration  held at Monkayo NHS Mini Gym last October 21, 2011.
     The said search is campaigning about the importance of recycling and to let the students know that garbage has also a significant role in the community because in just a simple make over you can turn garbage as an elegant ,simple but beautiful dresses.
     The said program was attended by Monkayo NHS teachers and students.
     On the 1st part of the program ,the candidates wore their jeans attire in their production number and it was judged by: Mr. Ernesto Gomez,Mrs.Jo Ann Espaniola,Mrs.Elvie Caballero,Mr.April Atienza as well as their gowns.
     The said event was highlighted with the theme "I LOVE TO LIVE IN PLANET EARTH.........PROMOTE ECO-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT".
     And the crowned Bb. Kalikasan  is Ms. Mariely Cornites who also won the "BEST IN RECYCLED GOWN" and she will compete to the Bb. Kalikasan Division Level on October 27, 2011.

The Spark is the official publication of the school managed by the English club. The advisers are Mrs. Kristian Anhara L. Marticio and Mrs. Michelle Allapitan.  They always include in their news columns topics about Environmental Awareness and Protection as well as the latest development in Science and Technology nowadays.. And we are proud to say that every year we won in the Regional and National level  Press Conference for different news writing categories.

Ang DINGAS ang opisyal na pahayagan ng MonkayoNHS na pinamahalaan ng Filipino Club sa pangunguna ni Dr. Amilyn B. Jimenez and Gng. Lilia M. Villaver. Isa sa mga inilathala nila ay ang tungkol sa ating kapaligiran. Tumulong sila sa pagpalaganap sa "advocacy " ng pamahalaan at ng paaralan sa maganda at maayos na pamayanan.at kapaligiran. Ang pahayagang ito ay nanalo taon-taon sa Rehiyon at sa National na patimpalak sa pagsusulat ng mga estudyante.. Si Dr. Jimenez ay ginawaran ng "MOST OUTSTANDING PRESS ADVISER" sa Region XI     ----SY 2010-2011.

REORGANIZING THE TASK FORCE KALIKASAN OF the MUNICIPALITY OF MONKAYO

    Task Force Kalikasan was organized since December 17, 2007 pursuant to Executive Order No 046-07 to ensure that protection,preservation and conservation of environment shall be enforced and to spearheaded the formulation of appropriate measures thereof for environmental protection.

    The body established an environmental framework harmonizing the existing national and local laws of this municipality.

     In order to sustain, implement and monitor plans and programs for development as a tool to the Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS), re-organizing Task Force Kalikasan is needed and for them to  convene regularly to ensure succes of the management of a clean and sustainable  environment.

     Therefore, Hon. Manuel B. Brillantes, Jr. Municipal Mayor, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province and by virtue of the power vested in him by law, do hereby ordered the reorganizing of Task Force Kalikasan with the following composition:

      The following are the functions of Task Force Kalikasan:

       *Develop/Formulate and implement plans and programs that will relate to environmental and natural        resources protection. preservation and conservation.

       *Establish, maintain, protect and preserve a communal forests, watershed, tree park, greenbelts and similar forests, like industrial tree farms and agro-forestry project.

       *Formulate measures to prevent and control land, air, and water pollution relative to conservation and utilization activities consistent with ecological balance.

       *Recommend all matters relative to the protection, preservation, conservation, maximum utilization, application utilization, application of appropriate technology related to the environment and natural resources.
