ARBOR DAY!

The  Municipality of Monkayo celebrated Arbor Day last June 25, 2011 at the Monkayo Municipal Hall Ground. THE EVENT STARTED 7:00 AM  with a tree planting within the  Poblacion to the boundary of Barangay Baylo, Monkayo as  Part I. Motorcade was next to it and then the launching of Municipal Greening Program as  Part II of the said event. It started with a doxology given by Monkayo Praise Fellowship Band; the hill song they played was entitled "Jesus Take The Wheel". After this was the flag raising and singing of the National Anthem accompanied by Monkayo National High School Drum And Bugle Corp. An overview the program was given byMrs.Maria Doris D. Dalogdog . In her speech she said, "Arbor Day in the Philippines has been institutionalized to be observed every June 25 by virtue of Proclamation No. 396 as amended, enjoined the active participation of all the government agencies, including government-owned  and controlled corporations, private sector, schools, civil society groups and the citizenry in tree planting activity. She added that the,"Executive Order No. 26-2011 issued by President Benigno Aquino III declares for the implementation of the NATIONAL GREENING PROGRAM as a government priority." She also said that our, "Honorable Manuel B. Brillantes, Jr. issued Executive Order No. 27-2011, adopting the Municipal Greening Program to launced in time for the celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day in June 25, 2011." In short, Mrs. Dalogdog wanted to give us an information on how and why there is an Arbor Day.

After  the long speech of  Mrs. Dalogdog , a special number was  given by the Monkayo Praise Fellowship Band(MPFG) .The chorus of the song caught our attention and that was, "Kalikasan kapag inabuso, manganganib tayo!" ----it gave us a warning to stop abusing Mother Earth so that  calamities won't hit us.
It means," whatever you throw to your environment ,it goes back to your backyard".
After the entertainment brought to us by MPFB , Honorable Joel Caballes in lieu of the absence of Honorable Manuel Brillantes, Jr. gave us a message wherein he said that our beloved Mayor is willing to support any activities regarding planting trees in the municipality. Two other people, (namely: Sarah C. Tanghian, DMD, For. Victor T. Billones) gave also a message extending their thanks to the people who supported the Arbor Day and to the community stakeholders  who will support the upcoming activities to lessen environmental problems.

Part of the program was the giving of Certificates of Appreciation by Sarah C. Tanghian, DMD. Two of which had received the certificates: Monkayo Public Market Vendors Assocition and the Non-Government Organization, Chambers Of Commerce.

To close the program, MPFB again sung a song that heralded  about environmental issues.

The event was nothing without the participation of different people: Local Government Unit(LGU), municipal employees, teachers and students of Monkayo National High School, Monkayo public market vendors, Monkayo tricycle drivers, and Ms. Earth-Monkayo candidates.
